This post is kind of a pain in the ass to read. But,I need some help! I have a XL-1 with the MA-100 XLR adapter. I am thinking of replacing the on Camera Mic with a shotgun Mic. The only problem is that I like the stereo sound of the on camera mic and if I use the shotgun mic I have to go into just one of the XLR jacks. What do I do with the other channel? I primarily do Weddings. You guys who do Weddings, How do you have your audio rigged? Are you using an on camera shotgun and mixing with your lav (12 bit 1 & 2) or are you using a shotgun set up somewhere in the church and mixing that with the lav? Looking for some ideas and proven solutions. Or are you placing a couple of mic's in various spots near the alter etc., Also, if you record on only 1 channel or do a mix will the audio be captered into Rex the same way? Finally, does someone know of a site besides XL-1 watchdog & Elite Videos XL-1 site that I can get audio questions answered? Thanks I have had the same troubles- I am currently working on a couple of suggestions that others have given to me. 1. Get an XLR y adapter to get right and left channels for the shotgun. (markertek has one for roughly $38.00) 2. Adapter that goes from XLR to 3.5mm stereo and use the same jack that the stock mic. ports into. 3. Use one of the MA100's XLR's for shotgun (left) use the right side for the lav, and mix. I currently use the unbalanced output (3.5mm) of my lav going into the minijack of the XL1- then I am using the XLR Y splitter for the shotgun. I am very happy with the results. Good luck, and let me know if you find out any other options. Darren Darren- Thanks for the info. I'm not sure though about what you mean in the last paragraph. If you could explain. Are you using the MA100? Are you pluging both the Adapter and the lav into the stock mic jacks? What kind of shotgun are you using? Thanks I should have read my post over more carefully. I even confused myself. Yes, I have the MA 100. The setup that I am using has not been perfected yet. It was a suggestion by someone on another board after I posted a question exactly like yours. I am having trouble getting the two audio inputs to mix, but I was promised that it would work. I have a sure UM1 lav mic and it has both a 3.5mm output (same as the XL1 stock mic.) and an XLR jack. I plug a 3.5mm cable from the shure reciever to the XL1's 3.5mm jack. Then I take the output (XLR) of the shotgun Audio Technica AT835B and use the XLR y splitter to connect to the MA100. I can use each mic independantly (great quality), but mixing on the fly has been more of a challenge. Post again if you have any more questions- or you can email me and I'll try to clarify. Darren Media Works PS I am not using the shotgun as an onboard mounted mic- I have only been using it for fishpole work so far.
